Green Homes Grant Scheme for Scottish Homeowners

Posted by | September 28, 2020

Did you know that Scottish homeowners can save money on new double glazing with the Green Homes Grant Scheme?

This year, Scottish property owners can participate in the HM Government-funded Green Homes Grant Scheme that aims to upgrade the energy efficiency of up to 600,000 homes across the UK. The programme is delivered via the Simple Energy Advice website that provides advice and an individualized plan for targeted energy-saving improvements to your home. From September 2020, eligible Scots can apply for vouchers to put towards the cost of improvements like double glazing, meaning it has never been a better time to finally get your windows done.

Double glazing is the perfect partner to home energy upgrades like heat pumps and insulation.

After all, you don’t want to lose all the warmth generated in your home through poorly glazed windows! Double and triple glazing uses insulating layers of inert gas to prevent heat exchange across your window panes, which can lead to loss of up to 30% of your home’s energy. Double glazing helps keep your home warm in our deep Scottish winters and cool in the summertime too. Condensation and damp are kept at bay as the inside of your window does not become cold, meaning that you will enjoy less energy use and savings of up to £600 annually for an average household.

Government funding can be used for up to two-thirds of the cost of energy-efficiency upgrades like double or triple glazing.

As part of the drive to reduce the carbon footprint of Scottish homes, the Green Homes Grant will provide funding for double glazing as a secondary upgrade alongside low-carbon heating or insulation installation. Replacement of single glazed windows tackles a major source of heat loss and it is hoped that participant homeowners and landlords will tackle their glazing as part of this competitive offer.

Hurry, time is running out to secure up to £10,000 for targeted, energy-saving improvements like double glazing for your home.

Property owners can receive up to £5,000 in vouchers for double glazing and the other qualifying home improvements. If you are a homeowner on a low-income the grant cap is extended to up to £10,000 which can make a real difference to the energy performance and costs of running your home.

Don’t wait to take action. Apply for your vouchers now! This scheme only runs until the 31st of March 2021 meaning your only have six months to take advantage of the unprecedented discounts available. You will need to not only apply for and receive your vouchers to be spent with accredited contractors, but also have the work completed and the vouchers redeemed within this time.
